My answer when asked if Mormonism is a cult.
The definition of cult is – “A relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister.” When Jesus introduced the gospel, the early Christians were a small group which had religious beliefs that were strange or sinister to the Jews and Romans. By definition Jesus Christ was a cult leader. Mormons believe in Jesus Christ, so I guess you could say that Mormons do follow a cult leader.
I like this answer because I think it helps those asking, to think about what they have been told and puts the prejudices in perspective.
