Ludmya “Mia” B. Love is the first black woman to serve as a city mayor in Utah.  (and future President of the United States of America) Mia’s parents were immigrants from Haiti and she first started investigating the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to get the inside track on what her sister was doing.

It’s all about Agency! You have the choice to listen to this episode or not. But I will make you this promise if you do, you will be inspired by Mia’s view of responsibility and agency.

Enjoy

When Mia said she married five months after meeting her husband, & Richie clapped & said “Yeah, got to get it done.” I felt frustrated. I live in an area with very few eligible LDS men, so I date non-members. I too feel like I am meant to be with someone – and yet NO ONE else on the planet beside LDS folks believe it makes sense to get married so quickly! The frustration is overwhelming and makes the pressure of avoiding fornication practically impossible to tolerate; and it seems to ruin relationships because I’m anxious to marry, and many non-LDS men don’t like to hear that. It’s non-unusual for non-LDS men to date someone for 2 YEARS before getting married, and perhaps for good reason – if we don’t share the same religion, it should take longer to get comfortable and negotiate common goals. I would appreciate learning more strategies for women to withstand their frustrations and make it longer than 5 months if necessary… Really nice to have another woman guest. 🙂
