TCHP-076-SpousalAbuse

Spousal abuse is not ok, but it happens. So what do you do if you find yourself in an abusive relationship? Do you feel like the abuse is your fault? Do you feel like you don’t know how to get out of it?

Whatever the case. It’s not ok.

In this episode we visit with Kirk Voss a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families to address a variety of emotional and mental health issues. Kirk received his Master’s degree in Family Studies: Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Utah. Kirk is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.

I agree with Richie, I think God does give us things and he then teaches us how we’re going to handle it. I certainly feel like I’ve been given FAR more than I can handle and wonder how I’ve survived.

I’ve also experienced being used in a marriage relationship because I thought that was my duty, that I was “his.” I was young and wish I had more relationship instruction before my terrible marriage experiences. I appreciate this episode for the sake of my son who was listening too. I appreciate Richie for the Cultural Hall podcast forum to discuss this stuff in a safe Mormon context.
