Great podcast! I stumbled upon on TCH last week and think it’s pretty cool. I am an active LDS church member who leans to the liberal side… I always admire Bill for his opinion and knowledge, though we don’t always share the same viewpoints. Thanks Bill!

I loved the Bill Allred podcast. I grew up listening to Radio From Hell with Carrie and Bill. Now living outside of Utah for many years it was a great flashback! So many good Radio from Hell, Saturday night cold case, and if its not cream of weber spit it out memories!!

One of the best interviews, if not the best, and episodes and I have listened to all of them.

    Very honest.

I did the same thing as Bill when I was young. To be clear, I’m married to a woman that identifies as Mormon. All my family and friends are basically Mormon to some degree. I have one family member that takes it very personally I’m no longer Mormon. I think it’s when we say things like “fell away from the church” that does a disservice to ex-members. I still love the church and I support doing and believing anything that makes you a better, moral person. I did not “fall away” from anything, and it bothers me when people see it that way – see me that way. Bill is a wonderful human being and when I read the setup that he “fell away” I think it marginalizes him and ignores the fact that maybe he just grew into his own potential as he would have done no matter what, no blame required. We ex-members are not failures, not apostates. We don’t fall, we grow. I accept all Mormons on that journey of growth, so please let’s choose our words more carefully and accept others with the same goals.

I enjoyed this interview. As an occasional/long-time listener of your anonymous morning radio show, it’s fun to hear Bill’s take on all things Mormon.

I don’t know if I could be a member if I grew up witnessing the culture of the church in Utah either. There are a few Utah transplants out here and often they arrive thinking the church culture is the same everywhere, but its not – they tend to be exclusionary and keep to the other members who are ‘like them’ and it’s very unnerving. It’s strange hearing that that getting membership numbers is believed to be such a big deal – I don’t have that impression at all living in Ohio. Sigh. I’ve always considered myself a Lamanite-ish convert type of person – I adore Bill’s perspective’s toward the earth and nature and wish him the very best!

I know I wouldn’t be as strong if I had to be Mormon in Utah. Here in hell (Arizona) there are also pockets of cultural pitfalls that really rub people the wrong way. I don’t know how I would be able to handle it in Utah (though the weather would be more of my taste) I appreciate Bill’s insight and this was a great podcast!
