Chris Clark is an amazing person. We could leave it there…but we won’t. Here is a little bit of his own words…

What advice would you give to struggling artists who are trying to make ends meet?

There’s no career path. You will never get a booth at the college career fair with someone recruiting plucky young theatre practitioners. That’s the deal. You have to be aware of that. And there’s no template for making it work. But it’s all about work. It’s about your ethic. It’s your willingness to make something happen, instead of hoping it will.

But LDS artists can take comfort in knowing that Heavenly Father is guiding their career. He knows where we all fit, and what we do best. If we are willing to do the work and take the chances, He will make it happen in some way.

I also think you can support a family. I have five kids and we’re doing okay. But you have to marry someone that is going to be supportive of your choice to be in theatre. I’m so lucky to be married to my wife, Lisa. She’s excited for me and is constantly encouraging me to try new things with my work and to put my neck out for opportunities. She loves that I do what I love.

John Buck is an American Major League Baseball catcher for the New York Mets. A native of Taylorsville Utah, a husband, a father and a member of the LDS faith, Buck was drafted in 1998 by the Houston Astros.  He made his made his major league debut on June 25, 2004 for the Kansas City Royals. As journeyman catcher this year, Buck landed with the New York Mets where he currently leads the National League in RBIs and is second in home runs. In a breakout year, John Buck catches our questions and hits it out of the park.

Linda Galindo is a former journalist and radio news personality, Galindo made the shift to consulting, speaking and writing about accountability 20 years ago. Galindo noticed that news stories were about people, especially leaders in business and government, who were not accountable.

My wife attended Linda Galindo’s lecture on Accountability. That’s where the idea for this episode started…but where it finished was a real great discussion on accountability. Accountability in the work place, in our relationships, and to ourselves and God we are each personally accountable for what we do and don’t do.

In a last minute type of thing we decided to take the show on the road down to the Cedar Fort spring cleaning sale.  If you are in Utah and wanna save a ton of money on some great books you need to check out this sale.

Even if you don’t know who Alex Boye is, though that would surprise us, you have definitely seen him before if you have ever watched General Conference. It seems that the camera loves him, for good reason, he’s a good looking guy and he is one of the small handful of non-white people in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Jeff Parkin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Media Arts and was appointed as an Associate Chair of the Department in 2009. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television Production from the School of Cinema-Television at the University of Southern California in 1990 as well as a BA in English/Humanities from USC. In 1991, he received a Master of Fine Arts from USC in screenwriting, with additional emphasis in directing.

Before coming to Brigham Young University he worked in Los Angeles for 15 years as a producer, director, and writer with companies such as: Miramax Pictures, CBS Television, Orion Pictures, David E. Kelley Productions, EMI/Capitol Records, Fox Television, Dallas Museum of Art, Franklin/Covey, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Times, McGraw-Hill Companies and United Artists.

He has written, directed and/or produced two full-length feature films, a number-one-rated movie of the week for CBS Television, as well as numerous short films, commercials, documentaries, music videos and industrial films. In 2010 Parkin received the Outstanding Achievement in Drama award from the Association for Mormon Letters for producing The Book of Jer3miah.

Christian Jacobs is an American musician, television producer, voice actor and former child actor. He is perhaps most recognized as the co-creator of the award-winning Nick Jr. children’s television series Yo Gabba Gabba!, on which he additionally serves as a writer, director, composer and voice actor.

Under the stage persona of The MC Bat Commander, Jacobs is also well-known for his work as lead singer of the successful Orange County rock band The Aquabats, which he co-founded in 1994. As of 2012, Jacobs portrays this role in The Hub original series The Aquabats! Super Show!, of which he also co-created and produces.

I, Richie, got to go on the set of The Aquabats! Super Show! It was like travelling to a different world. A world where there is a small dirty office where we could record a podcast episode. And so we did.

Parker LeGrand Jacobs is an American artist, musician and former child actor. He is known for his work as an art director on the children’s television series Yo Gabba Gabba!, for which he has been nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as for his involvement with the Californian bands GOGO13 and The Aquabats. He was patient with Richie as this was the first “On The Home Phone” interview.

The entire Jacobs family is amazingly talented. Next week on The Cultural Hall we visit with his brother Christian. (That was a tease!)

C Jane Kendrick is a blogger and humorist who writes about her life and family on her blog, C Jane Enjoy It. Kendrick and her husband having struggled to conceive, the title was (according to the blog Segullah) her “response to well-meaning people who told her to enjoy her years of being childless.”

Seeking partial anonymity, she goes by the name of “C. Jane” on her blog and calls her husband “Chup”, her son “The Chief,” but refers to her daughters by their real names, “Ever Jane” and “Erin”. Garnering a wide readership for her interesting and engaging writing style the Phoenix New Times terms the personal nature of her writing poignant and earnest, while Halogen TV terms her writing “sarcastic and irreverent, but…honest.”

Kendrick’s sister, Stephanie Nielson, known as “Nie Nie” by followers of her blog, is also a well-known blogger.  After she and her husband Christian were injured in a small plane crash, Kendrick cared for three of the Nielson children, Claire, Jane and Ollie.

The first season commences with the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, the Mormon Prophet, and follows the Saints across the plains to Utah. Subsequent seasons discuss expansion and colonization of the West, development of Utah and more. Each show features interviews with some of the most informed scholars presenting the latest in cutting-edge research. Viewers see the places, pictures, and journals of those who made that history. Each episode contains original signature music scored especially for that story. For those who want to learn about the history that comprises the unique culture and heritage of the Latter-day Saints, this show is a must. This is an awesome project. It is especially awesome to learn of how they fund it and put it all together. We need more projects like this one in the LDS church. Mckenzie Wagner is twelve years of age and has adored reading since she was four years old. Her love of books inspired her to write a book of her own and she completed the first book of “The Magic Wall Series”, “The Magic Meadow and the Golden Locket” at the early age seven and the second book “The Blue Lagoon and the Magic Coin” shortly thereafter.

McKenzie wishes to obtain an English degree, teach elementary school and continue in her pursuit and love of writing. She is already working to obtain college credits towards her degree. She currently resides in Utah, with her mom, dad, and her seven-year-old brother, Ty.
